Let the Games Begin – and the Clothes Come Off
The summer Olympics have begun, along with the immodesty that accompanies it. So many of the events involve near-nudity, and what is covered looks like it is painted rather than clothed. Adam and Eve’s fig leaves that Adam admitted still revealed their nakedness – and God then clothed (Gen. 3:7-10, 21) – would have covered more and would have torn if they were as tight.
God commands Christians “to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly,... as is proper for women (while women are specifically mentioned here, surely we realized the standard applies to all) making a claim to godliness.” (1 Tim. 2:9). Can you honestly apply words like proper, modest, discreet, and godly to the dress of many Olympians?
Hopefully we as Christians would never dress/undress like the Olympians, but how do we respond to them? If we allow them to entertain us, are we not showing approval for their immodesty? David wrote, “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes” (Psalm 101:3). I wonder how he would respond if he saw them on his electronic device. Would he cheer them on to victory or find something more proper, modest, discreet, and godly for his eyes to behold?
