The Bells and Red Kettles
’Tis the season for the bells and red kettles to appear and be heard in front of stores all around the nation. Before you drop anything into a kettle, know exactly to what you are contributing: a church.
“The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church.” It claims “to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ …,” but does it? In regard to “What We Believe” it says of Adam and Eve “that in consequence of their fall, all men have become sinners, totally depraved, and as such are justly exposed to the wrath of God” (see Ezekiel 18:20). It also teaches that repentance and faith are necessary on man’s part for salvation but omits baptism (see Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 22:16; etc.). Is this the kind of church you want to support?
If you want to help those in need – and you should (Gal. 6:10) – there are better ways than through the kettles and bells.
